Do you like to find multiple uses for household objects?
It comes in handy and saves you money too if you can figure out how to use an item in more ways than one.
Well, you will soon be amazed that toothpaste is one of these items. It has many uses that go far beyond brushing teeth.
If you are interested in using toothpaste to help clean your home, use as beauty care products, and use on your electronics, then you’ll want to read on because toothpaste might be your new favorite household product.
Before we get started, I need to mention; it is usually best to use white toothpaste that is non-gel. It works better in most cases listed below.
Clever Uses for Toothpaste
Here is what you can do with toothpaste beyond practicing good dental hygiene:
1. Remove Scuff Marks from Shoes
If you have beautiful leather shoes, then you may notice from time to time how they get scuff marks on them. These scuff marks can make your nice shoes look rough.
Well, the next time this happens, put a small amount of toothpaste on a toothbrush and gently rub the marks until they are gone.
2. Clean the Piano
If you have a piano, then you know what a treasure it is. They last forever and are a great addition to most home’s décor.
But the keys often get dirty and turn dingy in appearance. When this happens, apply some toothpaste to a toothbrush and gently scrub the keys. Then wipe clean with a damp rag.
3. Shine Up Your Chuck Taylors
If you have tennis shoes that have the white rubber parts on them, then you know how quickly new shoes begin looking like old shoes when the white part gets dirty.
Well, you can now quickly fix that by putting toothpaste on a toothbrush and scrubbing the white parts of the shoe until they shine like new.
4. Clean Your Clothing Iron
Everyone who has a clothing iron knows how nasty the plates get on the bottom of it at some point in time.
Well, just use some toothpaste and a toothbrush to clean the grime right off. Toothpaste has just the right amount of abrasion to do the trick.
5. Make Your Diamonds Shine

If you have a diamond ring that isn’t sparkling like it used to, then it might be time to give that diamond a decent cleaning.
Don’t think that you have to buy fancy cleaners. Instead, put toothpaste on a toothbrush and scrub the diamond ring until it shines like new again.
6. Keep Baby Bottles Fresh
If you’ve ever had a baby, then you know how baby bottles can often smell like soured milk even after adequately cleaning them.
Well, get rid of those odors easily by putting some toothpaste inside a clean baby bottle and scrub it with a bottle brush. The soured milk smell will soon be replaced with a minty fresh scent.
7. Stop the Fog in the Pool
If you are someone who likes to swim, then you probably own a pair of goggles. You also have probably realized how quickly those goggles fog up.
If this is the case, then you need to wipe the goggles down with toothpaste. Then use a towel to dry the goggles clean. The layer of toothpaste should keep the goggles from fogging up.
8. Stop the Fog in the Bathroom
You know the trick I just mentioned above with the goggles? You can apply the same trick to your bathroom mirrors.
If you are tired of jumping out of the shower only to find that the mirrors are fogged, then you need to apply a layer of toothpaste and wipe clean to stop that from happening.
9. Make Your Chrome Shine
You can have chrome in your home as decorative knobs, or you could have a big shiny truck with lots of chrome finish on the outside.
Either way, the chrome will need to be cleaned. Apply toothpaste to the chrome and buff it with a towel until it shines.
10. Scrub Sinks
If you are looking for an inexpensive sink cleaner, then look no further than your toothpaste. It can do a magnificent job.
You just need to squirt a little toothpaste in your sink and scrub gently with a soft toothbrush. This should remove all dirt and grime from the sink.
11. Remove Crayon Marks
When my kids were little, they often got a wild hair and decided to color on the walls. That did not make this mama very happy.
Then I realized I could remove the markings with some toothpaste on a toothbrush. It took a little elbow grease, but it came off of the walls eventually.
12. Ditch the Lipstick
Have you ever gotten lipstick on your clothing? Maybe your spouse had gotten lipstick on their clothing when you went out dancing one night?
Either way, lipstick can be hard to remove. That is until toothpaste gets into the mix. You just put toothpaste on a toothbrush and gently scrub the stain until it’s removed. Wash the clothing as usual after.
13. Ditch Ink from Fabrics
The same way I mentioned you could get lipstick out of your clothing, you can do the same with ink. Sometimes we get ink on our clothing by dropping a pen on us or ink splattering from a pen.
Yes, I’ve had that happen in my office more times than once. But don’t think your clothing is ruined. Instead, put the toothpaste to work.
14. Remove Water Marks
Nothing bothers me more than when people leave their drinks sitting on my wooden tables without a coaster. The reason is that they leave water marks.
But I don’t have to fear watermarks anymore. Instead, you just rub toothpaste on the marks and wipe away.
15. Stop the Acne in Its Tracks
My son laughed at me the other day because he is becoming a young teenager who is having some acne from time to time.
When he showed me his latest ‘problem’ I told him to put toothpaste on it. He thought I was nuts until it worked. The toothpaste helps to dry the spot out and diminishes the appearance as well.
16. Remove Beach Tar
I’ve never been to a beach where they had beach tar, but I’ve heard of it. It is black tar that often sticks to your feet on the beach.
Then it is difficult to remove. Now, if this happens to you, you can rub toothpaste on your feet, and the tar should come right off.
17. Kills Bad Odors
When I’m cooking, sometimes I get really strong odors on my hands. For instance, if I cook with a strong onion it can be difficult to remove the scent.
Well, not anymore. The next time you cook and get a strong odor on your hands, just wash your hands in toothpaste to remove it.
18. Stops the Misery of Bug Bites
I use this trick a lot with my youngest son. There is something about him that mosquitoes just love him, and he ends up with bug bites no matter what we try to deter them.
However, when the bug bites begin to itch, I just rub some toothpaste on them. It deters the itch and dries out the bite.
19. Removes Tough Stains from Carpet
I don’t have a lot of carpet in my house, and the stains are the main reason why. When you have kids and animals, it can be tough to keep your rug clean.
But if you have carpet and are looking for a way to clean a tough stain, consider putting toothpaste on the stain and working it out with a toothbrush.
20. Clears Murky Headlights
My newer cars have not developed this issue yet, thankfully. But a few years ago, I had an older minivan that had developed dim headlights. It diminished the look of the car.
Well, I learned you could clean the headlights with toothpaste. The toothpaste was abrasive enough to remove the dingy film that was covering my car’s lights, and they shined like new again.
21. Removes Small Scratches from Phone Screens
If you don’t keep a screen protector on your smaller electronics, like tablets and cellphones, the screens can easily develop small scratches.

If you’ve ever burned yourself, then you know how bad it can sting. There are lots of tricks to treating a burn.
For instance, you can apply oil, mayonnaise, or mustard to a burn. Now, add putting toothpaste on a burn to that list. It will help remove the stinging sensation.
23. Good for Your Nails
Do you want strong nails that look shiny and clean? If so, then toothpaste just became your best friend.
All you need to do is use a toothbrush with toothpaste on it and clean your nails with it sporadically. It will help to strengthen your nails while keeping them clean too.
24. Stops Poison Ivy in Its Tracks
Our oldest son is allergic to poison ivy. If he goes outside to mow the grass, he usually comes in contact with poison ivy somewhere.
Which is why I love this trick. You just rub toothpaste on the poison ivy, and it kills the itch while drying up the reaction too.
25. Reduces Bruising
I shared before how apple cider vinegar can be beneficial with helping bruises to heal faster than they usually would.
Well, toothpaste can do this too. You just rub it on the bruise, and it goes to work healing the bruised area of your body.
26. Removes Gum from Hair
I remember as a little girl, I went to sleep one night with gum in my mouth. I had long hair all the way down my back.
Naturally, when I woke up to gum in my hair,I was scared I was going to have to cut it out. Thankfully, my mom knew of a trick, and it worked. You can rub toothpaste over the gum, and it will make it easier to remove.
27. Removes Scuff Marks from Linoleum
If you have linoleum floors in your home, then you know how quickly they can develop scuff marks caused by people’s shoes.
Well, you can now use toothpaste to help remove those scuff marks from the floors. It is inexpensive and simple to do too.

Silver jewelry can be gorgeous when it is clean, but it can look pretty dingy when it is dirty. If you want to take your silver back to its original shine, then you need to try this hack.

29. Cleans Scratches from DVDs and CDs
People don’t use CDs as much as they once did, but if you recall, when they got scratched your CD was rather useless.
Well, the same rules apply to DVDs and video games today. Instead of thinking your favorite games and movies are finished, just scrub the scratches gently with toothpaste.
30. Cleans Your Hair Straightener
I have naturally curly hair. This means if I want to tame my hair, I need my hair straightener. The problem is the longer I use my straightener, the grimier it can get which makes it less efficient.
That is no longer an issue. You can clean the grime from your straightener by rubbing the toothpaste onto the straightener and cleaning it.
31. Cleans Your Instruments
When I was younger, I played in the school band. I played trumpet, flute, French horn, and the mellophone. I enjoyed it!
However, cleaning my instruments was rather expensive. Which is why I’m so glad that toothpaste is a great way to clean metal instruments. Maybe that tip can save a musician a little money in the long run.
32. Fixes Nail Holes
Do you enjoy having a home that is fully decorated? Most people like to display family photos on the wall and other fun memories?
But when you move or you redecorate you have nail holes in the wall. Those are easily fixable now that you can rub toothpaste over the holes to plug them.
33. Freshens Kitchen Drains
Kitchen drains often get musky smells because of all of the food that makes their way down it. You don’t have to settle for that smell, though.
Instead, rub some toothpaste around the drain and let it sit. Then rinse it out. It should give the sink a fresh scent.
34. Freshens Food Containers
Do you like to store your food storage containers with the lids on so you don’t lose them? I used to do that for simplicity sake (you never miss a lid that way.)
But then they developed an odor I didn’t like. You can scrub the containers with toothpaste to put off a minty fresh scent that will kill the smell and still allow you to store the lids on top of the containers.
35. Works as a Car Freshener
Car fresheners can get expensive, but no one wants a car that doesn’t smell right either. If that is your case, then you need to put toothpaste on a paper towel and stash it under your seats.
Then park your car in the sun. This will cause the car to heat up, and the scent to be released from the paper towel.
36. Gives Plastic Garden Furniture New Life
If you have plastic garden furniture, then you know how they can become dirty and discolored making them look less than appealing.
Well, give them a solid scrub with toothpaste and a toothbrush and see if new life isn’t breathed into your lawn furniture.
37. Cleans Your Fridge
Cleaning out my fridge is probably one of my least favorite chores. The reason is all of the food and grime that can get stuck in corners of the refrigerator.
Now, I don’t have to dread cleaning my fridge any longer because the dirt and grime can be easily removed by putting toothpaste on a toothbrush and gently scrubbing the fridge seal and corners.
38. Cleans Soap Scum
If you battle soap scum in your bathroom, then you need to put toothpaste to work for you in this area.
You apply toothpaste on a toothbrush or scouring pad and gently scrub. It will remove the soap scum and cost a lot less than other bathroom cleaners.
39. Shine Up Your Faucets
Most people continuously battle toothpaste on their sinks. I’ve learned to embrace mine and use it to clean my sinks.
Now, I just put a little more toothpaste on my faucets (than what my kids already leave there) and gently rub and rinse until the faucet is shiny again.
40. Removes Finger Marks from Keyboards
If you use your computer as much as I use mine, then you probably realize that you have little fingerprints on certain keys.
Well, you can gently remove them by lightly rubbing some toothpaste on those keys. Then wipe clean. Again, be careful not to rub the letters from the keys.
41. Gets Rid of the Skunk Smell
If a skunk has ever sprayed you or your dog, then you know how hard it is to remove the smell from the sprayed area.
One solution you may not have tried is to take a shower and then rub toothpaste all over the sprayed areas.
42. Keeps Hairs in Place
Are you out of hair gel, but you have crazy hairs flying everywhere? As I mentioned earlier, I have naturally curly hair. I understand what that can be like.
But don’t panic. Instead, use toothpaste to gently put those hairs down and back in the place they belong.
43. Stops the Itch of Skin Rashes
This tip will only work for closed skin rashes. If you have a rash with no opening into the body on it, then try applying toothpaste to it.
From there, toothpaste can help soothe the itch of the rash and also help to dry the rash up. If the outbreak worsens or doesn’t heal within a reasonable amount of time, please seek medical treatment.
44. Repairs Minor Car Scratches
We all get minor scratches on our cars. It just happens, but they don’t have to stay there. Instead, you can remove the small scratches.
You can do this by applying toothpaste to those small scratches and then wiping clean. Do this until the scratches are less noticeable or gone altogether.
Well, you now have over 40 different options for using toothpaste in a manner other than brushing your teeth. Hopefully, this will save you time and money in the future.
